Glastonbury
1998
Friday
June 28th - Saturday June 29th - Sunday June 30th
We
should be ok, surly the weather couldn't be worse than last year? Was
I wrong or what. Here is a criminally short review.
Highlight:
Finding out that Gorkys were playing.
Low
light: Missing Sonic Youth and Spiritualized
Friday
Carrie
- Not bad, the singer has a real stage presence. They played all the
singles apart from The Birds (one
of my faves).
Ultrasound
- Only heard 3 songs as I wanted to watch all of DOTR set. What I heard
was brilliant, Tiny is so cool!
Dawn
Of The Replicants - Why they haven't had the success they deserve
I don't
know.
The singer l ooked
the worst for wear but it was a great set.
The
Unbelievable Truth - Unbelievably Dull more like, (dam I'm beginning
to sound like the guest reviewer on Planet Sound on C4 text!) I had to
endure these as I didn't fancy watching England
in the rain and wanted to watch JAMC afterwards.
The
Jesus and Mary Chain - I was really impressed with them. I didn't
know much
about them before but on the strength of this I will be seeking out
their material.
Saturday
A-
Pogo action city, I got completely muddied out to their set and enjoyed
every
minute.
Kenickie
- I was impressed by the new stuff, they didn't play much old stuff
which was a shame. Can't wait for the new album.
Gorky's
Zygotic Mynci -
Fantastic, Brilliant, Superb and other words I can't
think of. I know I'm a big fan and so
a little biased but they were the
best band I saw all weekend. I have never known an hour go by so
quickly.

Blur
- Hmmmmm, very disappointing they just didn't seem to click. The choice
of songs for the encore were very
strange and Song2 didn't hit the button at
all. Best moment was Popscene.
Sunday
Grrrr,
wanted to see Earl Brutus and of course Spiritualized but we had to
go early.
